Our New Puppy: RUGER!
Good Afternoon to all of my blog readers! Thank you for checking back to see what's happening in our part of the world...
Life is going great and Jerry and I are finally settling back into a routine. It is so wonderful to be able to SEE Jerry every day and not just TALK to him! His days at work have been quite long as he has established command of the Rear Detachment. He was always working 7 days a week when he was forward, so not much has changed there as undoubtedly there are people that need him on the weekends here too. But the great thing is that I usually jump in the truck and go with him when he has to go to the office during his "off hours." He has a government cell phone that stays glued to his hip 24/7 and it goes off all the time. I'm getting used to it though... I realize now that after being an Army wife for nearly 4 years, I have joint custody of my husband with the United States Army:) I just look so forward to watching my husband walk through the door every evening even if it is late... it's hard to put into words how amazing that really is. I am just so thankful that he's home... sometimes it's still hard to believe that he's staying. In my last blog, I forgot to mention that on the drive back to Colorado from Texas, Jerry and I made a stop at my grandparent's house in Dallas! We called when we were on our way and they had warm coffee and dinner waiting for us. It was so good to see them again and tell them the news that Jerry didn't have to go back. They, like the rest of us, were so thankful! Many folks always ask how they are so I thought I'd post a couple pictures... Don't they look great?!
Shortly after getting back, Jerry and I were hailed (welcomed) at a dinner as the incoming Rear Detachment Commander and Spouse. We enjoyed a fun dinner with lots of wives (since all of the husband's are deployed:(
Back around the first part of February, our BIG doggie Jake died. It was a tragic story but I know that all things work out for good, and if nothing else it was a good lesson for all involved. We had family looking after him for us and through a series of events, the dog was taken off of his run, and with his I’m-free-come-and-catch-me nature, he saw a gate that was left open and ran through it. A few moments later, a truck came racing down the street and Jake was hit. I was just heartbroken when I got the call, but was quite thankful that none of the children were hurt… sadly, they all saw it happen. It was the hardest thing ever calling Jerry to tell him the news… Anyway, that being in the past, when Jerry got home and we got the news that he was going to stay, we decided to look into getting another dog. This time we wanted something younger (we adopted Jake from the humane society when he was a little over 1) so we could train him and abate any bad habits the dog might develop early on. After checking the paper, craigslist.com, the internet, and the humane society, we found us a little puppy! Meet RUGER, our little chocolate lab:He was 8 weeks old and 18 pounds when we got him and he has already grown quite a bit since these pictures. He developed kennel cough pretty bad while he was at the humane society, so we took him to the doctor shortly after bringing him home. After antibiotics and some cough medicine for doggies, he's got his personality back! He stays inside and is (thankfully!) doing quite well with the potty training. When a friend up at the office heard about our new addition, she brought over a huge basket of goodies for Ruger, full of puppy treats and toys! Ruger was in heaven! Thank you Brandi!
Well, I guess that's all for now.... I really need to be working on school. We had a bad blizzard blow through a little over a week ago and I took some pictures so I'll post those soon. I hope all of you have a wonderful Easter weekend! Thank you for checking back! Love and hugs to all, J & E
