  • Happy New Year!

As promised, here is another Guam update! I can't believe it's already March 1st. Time has gone by so fast while I've been out here... it's been almost 3 months! I just hung up with Jerry and he sounded good, just really tired. So, please continue to pray for him as he has had some long days. I received several emails in response to my last update and folks have been asking for more pictures. I finally got more uploaded so I'll just write a caption under each picture so I don't bore anyone with my long journal entries. I plan on flying off island around the 10th of March to get ready for Jerry's arrival. He comes home THIS MONTH, Lord willing!!

I've learned several new phrases while I've been out here. One being "on island" or "off island"  as mentioned in the previous paragraph. The first time I was here I said something to one of the locals about being "out of town" or "going to town" to run errands and they looked at me so funny. Come to find out, there are no towns on the island, but villages. And if anyone leaves, they don't leave town, they go off island! Just thought I'd share incase any of you find yourself on an island...

I feel like I'm already used to island food too.. for those that know me well, I don't eat shrimp or fish...of any kind, raw or cooked, except tuna... from a can, but I have branched out and have several new favorite foods! Dad and Shane went fishing and brought home Mahi Mahi not too long ago... it was just delicious! I've also tried sashimi and fresh tuna wraps and enjoyed them as well. On the flight over in December, I was wondering how I was going to make it with little "American" food seeings how I was served rice and fish 3 times on the airplane. But I find myself craving shrimp patties and red rice... a local favorite! (Many people eat to live... I'm one of those that lives to eat! Hah!) My time here has been most enjoyable and I'm going to miss my family so much when I leave but I can't wait to have Jerry home! Without further ado, here are a couple highlights from New Year's Eve...

We started the day by playing at Family Beach with folks from Harvest. We all brought snacks and enjoyed a fun afternoon of playing in the sun in the beautiful ocean. Everyone had fun on the jet ski too... CJ and NellieMae took me on several rides and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Here is another beach shot...Pastor and Mrs. Herron, Dad, and Josh all enjoying some visiting... I couldn't get my mom to sit still... she was always up cleaning or taking care of the kids! She's the one in the Hawaiian pants in the back...

After several hours at the beach, we all came home and had dinner and played catch phrase... it was so much fun! We played guys-against-girls which was a trip. Any time you get that many people together to play that game it's a hoot! This night was no exception. I missed Jerry so bad!

CJ and NM looked cute in this one... I guess I decided to close my eyes for a second...

This was fun... watching the fireworks from the 10th story balcony...the view couldn't have been better! We all gathered together just before midnight and read a Bible passage and prayed, then did the countdown. I called Jerry and had him on the phone when I rang in the new year. Then 7 hours later he called me and I rang it in with him! I was just so glad we were able to talk. It made it so special. I'm just so excited I can finally say Jerry will be home THIS YEAR!! We have been waiting for that for over 4 months!

After the fireworks we came in and got pillows and blankets and turned on a family favorite movie "Remember the Titans" and watched it on the "big screen." It was a long but fun day. I missed Jerry so much and was glad I didn't have to spend the holidays alone.

Thank you for checking back... I'm going to get ready for our evening service at church. All of you back home are sleeping soundly as it is around 0130 on Sunday morning for you. Just so you know... Sunday is going to be a great day... I know because it's already almost over and mine has been great! Sweet dreams to all of you, Jerry and Erin
