Greetings from Montgomery, Texas! Thank you for checking back! Jerry is doing well and we are still able to talk quite a bit. He sounds well and as always his voice is just music to my ears. By Thursday of this week he will have been gone 4 weeks. Only 48 more to go! He has had some long days leaving him very tired, many hot days (in the 130s) leaving him quite sweaty, and a couple severe sand storms leaving him feeling quite "gritty," over the course of the last couple weeks. It's a different type of life and living over there. But he doesn't let it get in the way and continues to do his job and serve his battalion. They are still in the process of moving everyone to their FOB, so Jerry has spent a good bit of time at the air base in Kuwait making sure soldiers are going where they need to go. As soon as he is able to take and send some pictures, I'll pass them on. He sends his thanks for the continued prayer support and says hi to everyone!
Things are going well here for us after Hurricane Ike. But I do believe there are quite a few people in the Houston/Galveston area that can't say the same thing. To date, thousands are still without power and as of this past week, many schools, businesses, and grocery stores finally re-opened. There are folks still picking up bits and pieces here and there trying to get their lives back in order. I think Ike did more damage than most people thought.
My evacuation to Killeen (central Texas) to stay with CarrieLynn went great. The drive was fine and the camper towed well (thankfully I didn't need that road-side assistance number on my speed dial!) We had a nice time and she was so sweet to open her home to me and my camper:) She stayed pretty busy most of the time with school and work, so we did most of our visiting in the morning before she left, or after 11:00 in the evening when she got home. Since I too am going to school (all distance learning classes) I was able to get quite a bit done the week I stayed with her. Kit did have off one afternoon so I was able to go up and have lunch with her where she works at Texas Land & Cattle. Thanks Kit for a great week!
I'm also enjoying my time with my older sis and her little kiddos! We have had many fun days together and I enjoy getting to be part of their lives for this brief time. Martin, Millie, Bella, and Elaina seem to be getting cuter with each passing day and they are all so adorable in their own way. I don't know how Christina does it day in and day out... all I know is that she does, and she still has a smile on her face. I get warn out just watching her some times! Here we are outside going for a ride on our way to eat dinner down with her in-laws!
And the evening at the Herzog's was really nice... here I am in the kitchen with Katherine, Mrs. Herzog, and Stephanie.
While staying busy with school, helping Christina out at the house with her little ones, I also go over to the Roland's or to Nani's (Jerry's grandmother) every now and then to spend time with them too. Just before Ike, we celebrated Jesse's and Kelley's Birthdays on a Sunday afternoon and had some yummy ribs and taters! That is one of the great things about being back in the south... you've got all the yummy food! Here are the birthday kiddos...
Jesse turned 15
And Kelley turned 8
I guess I'll sign off for now. I'll post more later on. Love and hugs to all. And thanks to all of my blog viewers and buddies! It's great keeping up with you all!
