  • Hurricane IKE

Hey Folks! Thanks for checking back! I had only been in the Conroe/Montgomery area of Texas for 8 days when I evacuated to central Texas because of Hurricane Ike. It slammed the Texas  coast early Saturday morning as a category 2 hurricane leaving Galveston and other surrounding cities under water, nearly 3 million without power, and thousands with damaged homes and property. Here is a satellite picture just before it hit Houston and another of when it was hitting Houston. Sadly, it was a massive storm with massive damage and it traveled right up I45.

This satellite image taken late Friday shows the eye of Hurricane Ike as it nears Texas. The edge of the storm extended to Mississippi.

Fire destroys a building along the beach on Galveston Island as Hurricane Ike approaches Texas Friday. Streets were too flooded for firetrucks to get through.

There were winds up to 110 mph and I didn't feel comfortable staying, especially since I had my little travel trailer with me. So, I headed out early Friday morning to be with one of my younger sisters, CarrieLynn, at her home in Killeen, Texas. So far we haven't have but a little wind (maybe 30 mph) and scattered rain showers. I'm so thankful I left!

My older sister and her family are doing fine at their home in Montgomery... still without power and very intermittent cell phone reception as "all circuits are busy." Christina said that the winds "rattled" their house even though they are 150+ miles away from the coast. My in-laws and the kiddos are also fine in Conroe but again lots of trees and power lines are down blocking roadways. We are very thankful that there was not any more damage in their neck of the woods. There are numerous people that evacuated that will not have a home to come home to, so please be in prayer for those families.

On a different note, Jerry is doing well and I hear from him on a regular basis! Thank you for your continued prayer support for him. Their whole battalion has arrived and they are still in Kuwait waiting to be moved to their FOB. Thank you again for checking in... I'll post more later...

Glad to hear you are all okay.  We got my parents out of town, but Bill and Nathanael stayed home to batten down the hatches. Tree damage, no power or water, but all is basically well.

Bless y'all, and give CarrieLynn our love!
